Last week I was slated to travel to take a 2-day training class. The good news was that I missed the huge winter storm that slammed North Carolina. The bad news: my class was in Atlanta. So instead of snow and ice, I got lots and lots of ice. But once the ice melted, I decided to hit up a few BBQ joints in and near to the Atlanta area.
I’ve had Wink’s on my “must check out” list for quite some time now, but for some reason or another I’ve never made it there until recently. One weekend I finally bit the bullet and made the drive (approximately 45 minutes from my house) up for lunch. Was it worth it? Let’s find out!
Before embarking on my current trip to Montana for work, I thought of the state as pretty much BBQ barren. I’m proud to say that I’m wrong. On my way back to Bozeman from the Little Bighorn Battle Site, I made a stop in Billings at Blue’s BBQ after consulting Yelp. A lot of times, the reviews on there can be hit or miss, so it was a bit of a risk. Nothing would ruin my 2 hour trip back than some terrible BBQ. But don’t let its modest location within a gas station fool you… it’s got some serious food!
I apologize for not writing until now. It’s funny how real life can get in the way of things. I’ve taken a new position that has had me on the road for nearly a month now. In fact, I am still on the road as I write this. The one advantage of being on the road is getting to check out new BBQ joints and restaurants. One place I had the privilege of checking out was Phat Matt’s BBQ in Oakland. In fact, I checked it out twice!
Montana is well-known for it’s bison and beef. BBQ? Not so much. So on my recent trip to Bozeman, MT, I scoped out my BBQ options. There was one option – Famous Dave’s. After reading a review from my friend Lionel, I was a bit nervous. I certainly didn’t want to go and have a terrible dinner, but I decided to take the plunge. I’m glad I did.
I’m going to approach this restaurant review a little different. A lot of times I will go on and on and on into great elaborate detail about a restaurant. This one, however, I will keep short and sweet. Because, quite frankly, pictures speak more than words…
As you may recall a couple of weeks ago, I got to meet up with my good friend and fellow BBQ blogger Wilfred Reinke as he was travelling through NC on his way to FL. Today I got to meet up with him again for lunch. As he had a long drive ahead of him today, I decided to meet him at this BBQ joint in north Charlotte so that he could at least shave a few miles off of his trip today. We met at Bobbee-O’s BBQ. BBQ in Charlotte? That used to be the punchline to many a joke. Nowadays, however, BBQ is becoming more and more relevant here in the Queen City. So when I learned that my good friend Wilfred Reinke was coming through Charlotte, I intended to take him to one of the restaurants. Like all good plans, they change. The idea popped in my head for us to check out the newest BBQ restaurant in Charlotte — Queen City Q — and do a dual review. I asked another one of my good friends Steve Gibbs if he’d like to join us, and all of a sudden it became a three-headed review! Steve has already posted his review here, so please go and check it out! This is my take on Queen City Q… Continue reading “Gettin’ My Q on at Queen City Q”
As a writer, sometimes you plan and plan and plan for long periods of time on an idea that you want to put down on paper (or blog, as this case may be). And sometimes, ideas just come up all of a sudden. So when I saw my good friend Greg Talley (the brains behind Sam Dog BBQ) post pictures from Southern Soul Barbeque, I asked him if he would be willing to write a review on it. Even though it was a very last-minute thing, he was gracious enough to do so. Check out Greg’s review!
Last week I went to visit my parents in south Mississippi. Before my trip, I asked around for recommendations on a must-visit BBQ place. Almost everyone said Leatha’s. Now it’s very rare that I get such a unanimous response to a question, so I just had to check it out! Continue reading “Review: Leatha’s Bar-B-Que Inn — Hattiesburg, MS”
