With Season 3 of BBQ Pitmasters all wrapped up and re-runs going on Destination America, it’s time to take another look at the experience of being on BBQ Pitmasters through the eyes of the contestants. I have to say that I enjoyed Season 3 of BBQ Pitmasters far more than Season 2. I hope you all were able to watch and participate in the Unofficially Official BBQ Pitmasters Drinking Game. While I was lucky enough to attend the season finale filming in Lexington, NC, it’s still an outsider’s perspective. People really want to know this one question: “What was it like being on BBQ Pitmasters?” Luckily, I’ve found some people willing to share their story.
Lexington, NC was the site for the finale for BBQ Pitmasters Season 3. This episode brought the winners from the previous 5 episodes together in the self-proclaimed BBQ Capital of the US to determine who would be the winner of the $50,000 prize as well as a spot in the Kingsford Invitational.
The finale for Season 3 of BBQ Pitmasters is tonight. It was filmed in Lexington, NC at the BBQ Capital Cook Off, and the contestants in this episode are cooking pork shoulder and spare ribs. This episode will feature the winners from the previous 5 episodes:
Episode 4 of BBQ Pitmasters Season 3 is now in the books. The official motto for this episode should be “If it wasn’t for injections, I’d be sober”.
Last week, the rules for the Unofficially Official BBQ Pitmasters Drinking Game were announced in time for the third episode of the current season. As you may know already, the first five episodes will feature 15 BBQ pitmasters (that’s three per episode) competing at various BBQ festivals throughout the country for a spot in the winner-take-all season finale. The winner of the finale receives $50,000, an invitation to the Kingsford Invitational, and the coveted title of Kingsford BBQ Pitmasters Grand Champion. Three of the most well-known BBQ personalities are serving as judges for this season – Myron Mixon of Jack’s Old South, Tuffy Stone of Cool Smoke, and Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue. If there is anything that is a natural fit to be paired with BBQ, it’s beer. Beer and BBQ. The stuff that many festivals throughout the country are made of. This perfect combination of food and beverage is the basis for the Unofficially Official BBQ Pitmasters Drinking Game!
This weekend was an off weekend for me, so I decided to go and check out the 2012 BBQ Capital Cook-Off in Lexington, NC. This contest is about an hour from where I live. This contest featured 50 teams from all over the country (and the world, but I’ll get to that later).
