Each year, the National Barbecue Association has its Awards of Excellence competition, recognizing the best products in barbecue across 25 different categories. For the 2014 Awards of Excellence, over 500 entries were received! Results were announced at the 2014 NBBQA Conference in San Marcos, TX. Below are the top 5 entries in each of the 25 categories. As many of you may know, North Carolina is extremely rich in BBQ tradition — so much so that there is a supposed schism between east and west as to what BBQ really is. Last week I was slated to travel to take a 2-day training class. The good news was that I missed the huge winter storm that slammed North Carolina. The bad news: my class was in Atlanta. So instead of snow and ice, I got lots and lots of ice. But once the ice melted, I decided to hit up a few BBQ joints in and near to the Atlanta area.
