Smokin’ Skullie’s “Just Leave the Bones” BBQ Sauce

One thing I’ve learned about BBQ is that you meet people fast.  Everybody that you meet either knows somebody or knows a person that knows somebody.  Connections are a wonderful thing!  One of the people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting on the competition circuit is Jerry from Redneck Scientific.  I have him to thank for getting me connected to the guy who makes the sauce that is the topic of this review – Smokin’ Skullies “Just Leave the Bones” BBQ Sauce.

Memphis Barbecue Co. – Fayetteville, NC

When I was at Memphis in May last year, a group of us had lunch at Memphis Barbecue Co. in Horn Lake, MS just before I had to fly back to NC.  I was very impressed with the quality of food there.  Imagine my excitement when I find out that world champion BBQ pitmasters Melissa Cookston and John Wheeler decide to open a location here in North Carolina.  There was one slight problem – the new location is in Fayetteville, about 2 hours and 40 minutes away from me.  This past weekend, my wife bribed me with a trip to Memphis Barbecue Co. in Fayetteville if I tagged along with her to some yarn & fiber shops.  Lesson here: feed me, and I’ll do pretty much anything you want.  So let’s check out Memphis Barbecue Co.!

My First Thanksgiving Turkey – The Good and The Bad

My wife and I decided to stay home for Thanksgiving this year.  We did this a couple of years ago and really enjoyed ourselves.  My original idea was to do a fried turkey this year, but instead we decided to do one on the smoker.  Earlier that week, I received a Thanksgiving care package from Heather at Stubb’s BBQ that contained two bottles of injectable marinade and a bottle of chicken rub.  It was serendipity!  The stars were aligning – smoked turkey was my destiny for this year!

My DC experience: friends, food, and fantastic views

Ever since taking a new position, I have done a bit of traveling for work training.  This work training has offered up the chance (when not in training) to take in sights, check out good eats, and meet up with friends.  A few weeks ago I was in the DC area, and in between training sessions, I had the chance to do all of the above!

BBQ Pitmasters Season 4 Premiering November 17

With the success of BBQ Pitmasters Season 3, it was no surprise that the show was picked up for a fourth season.  What is surprising (to me, at least) is that season 4 premiers in 3 weeks!  As you may be aware, season 4 concentrates on regional styles of BBQ to determine who is the best BBQ Pitmaster for a particular region.  Below is the press release from Destination America (picture below courtesy of Discovery):
